Study Guide: Places to Study Dentistry in Malaysia 2015

23:09

Hi guys, I am back with another post on institutions that offer DENTISTRY in Malaysia. I know dentistry is a hot course out there after medicine, so if you are interested, I have listed down every university available that offered the course. I will divide it into Public Universities and also Private Universities, the biggest difference between these two categories is obviously that you need to pay much more if you want to enter a Private university that offered dentistry.

I really hope this post will help you by giving you more options if you are interested in furthering studies in dentistry after your pre-U, this is the UP TO DATE versions as there have been some new dental faculties popping out throughout the years. For your references, I also added the links to those universities/college and also the approximate fees you will need to pay (excluding living costs, please take note of that). Now I have been to some of these universities before, but I am not in a position to make comments of them. If you are interested in a particular university, you might need to ask the seniors there, perhaps about location(which state in Malaysia), accommodation, life there, facilities, syllabus, recognition of the dental degree (whether it is approved by Malaysia or Singapore or overseas so you know your prospect in the future), about the lectures and teaching/clinical practises and etc etc.

For me, I am from University Sains Malaysia, feel free to comment down below so I may answer your questions if I can. So as you can see, most of the degrees offered either Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS). I did not state the years of studies because most of them (or all) are 5 years.

Note: Please check the entry requirements for admission of the universities. Requirements may differ from Uni to Uni so to ensure a higher chance to get accepted, please be clear of your own achievements so you know where you are heading. Don't forget to check out financial aids offered by the universities as well, and also whether the universities require interview or aptitude tests, because from what I know, most of them does required interviews due to limited seats (dental chairs are expensive these days).

May I know when should I apply to(the best time)USM for Dentistry for this sept intake .I know the due date for submission of application is about this april and the interviews will be somewhere around august or sept or something. However, my A-levels result will only be released this august. If i am to study there, wouldn't i be wasting 1 year?Isn't this unfair to those taking alevels or private education?Sorry, may i know what's your pre-u qualification? Stpm?matriks?alevels?how u enter?when did u submit the application form?Reply is of utmost importance and very much appreciated.Thank you!!ps:sorry for bombarding too many questions at once but it's really urgent for me thanks once again

    1. Hi, personally I was from matriculation. I entered via a cgpa 4.0 matriculation results and was called for an interview by usm dentistry.I do not remembered the exact date I submit the form, but once UPU is open, I bought the pin number from the bank and started applying online. As for your questions regarding A-level, I consulted two of my A-level friends in usm. The first one faced the same problem as you while applying dentistry in usm, where his results came out after the application date, and he waited for another extra year before getting the offer, that time he claimed that USM did not called him for an interview despite him using his trial A-level result (prehaps for them, it wasnt valid). Another friend of mine who is studying for medicine, claimed that she used her AS level trial results to get the interview and offer rather than waiting for another extra one year, it worked that time, but she is unsure about the system now.
